Message From The Family
Thank you for your support during this difficult time.
Please enhance this tribute to Estelle by adding your memories and photos.
Ms. Boone was born in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada in 1931 to Robert and Muriel Gosse. Music was an important part of her life, singing in grade school and later on in high school musical productions. She joined the choir of her church at age thirteen. She later received a scholarship to attend the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto majoring in voice. Music was her life and the beautiful solos she gave is what most people will remember her for.
While studying in Toronto, Ontario, she met and married William M. Porter, a Christian Church Minister. Their first pastorate was in Guelph, Ontario, where their son Stephen was born. Their second pastorate was in Warren Ohio, where their daughter Emily was born, and they also served The First Christian Church.
Ms. Boone taught both music and social studies for 24 years in the Murray Independent School System. She directed or sang in church choirs for more than 65 years, which included both the First Christian Church and the First Presbyterian Church of Murray. She also directed the Women's Club Chorus and served on the board of Need Line for eight years, three of those as acting President. Ms. Boone was in several Playhouse in the Park productions. Many will remember her for her role as Mother Superior in The Sound of Music. She was a member of the Murray Civic Music Association, and volunteer at the National Scout Museum.
Ms. Boone was married to O.B. Boone Jr. in July 1980. His life was ended in a tragic automobile accident on November 11, 1987. Also preceding her in death were her parents and her first husband William Porter. Surviving relatives are here sister, Audrey Hardy in California, her brother George Gosse and wife Barbara on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, her son Stephen Brett Porter and wife Susan, her daughter Emily Porter and sister-in-law Shirley Boone. Her stepchildren include Diana Boone, Lee Ann Boone, Brad Boone and wife Laurie. Grandchildren include Boone Lane, Blair Brockman and husband Tyler, J.B. Boone and wife Rachel, Ben Boone and wife Trinity, Madeline Boone and husband Josh, and Caroline Boone and husband Mathew. Ms. Boone has one great-grand child, the seriously adorable, Tanner Austin Brockman, son of Blair and Tyler Brockman.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 28th at the First Presbyterian Church in Murray. Visitation with the family starts at 10:00 am and the Memorial Service begins at 11:00 am. A reception and lite lunch will follow the Memorial Service, and all are welcome.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Margaret Boone Memorial Fund at the First Presbyterian Church. Address: 1601 Main St, Murray, KY 42071. Thank you for remembering her in this way.

Condolence & Memory Journal
Steve & Emily I send my sympathy. I knew you both at Murray High. Your mother was friends with my Grandmother Rubye Pool. My grandmother would keep me updated on your acting career Steve. Tonight I noticed you on an episode of The Golden Girls & Googled you plus Murray to see what you were up to and your mother's obituary came up. I will put you & Emily in my prayers.

Margaret left many memories for my children as she added music into her classes introducing them to many cultures through song. She was a special lady with a very sweet spirit. Praying for the family.

When I think of teacher - and all that is worthy of the title, teacher - Mrs. Boone stands out as one of the best. As a former student, I can still remember songs we learned from her class ("The Cat Came Back"; "Hava Nagila"). I also vividly remember her performance of "Climb Every Mountain" and how the whole Playhouse theater filled with the power of her soprano voice. Reading about her life as an adult (rather than through the lens of a child) makes her spirit in the classroom and Sound of Music performance all the more profound. While all these things make her remarkable, I will most fondly think of her 6th grade classroom as a kind of safe haven in which the best of friendships were forged. I loved 6th grade. Mrs. Boone and her classroom provided a wonderful environment for learning and friendship. My sincere condolences and prayers for the family.
